DTF vs Screen Printing

Screen printing has been around for over a century and is still one of the most common printing methods used today.  However, it can be very costly to set up. Alternatively DTF printing is the new kid on the block that uses a special printer to transfer designs onto a clear film, which is then placed onto the fabric and heat pressed. The result is a high-quality, vibrant print with a much lower set up cost than screen printing.

DTF Printing

DTF or Direct-to-Film printing, is a relatively new technique that's been gaining popularity in the printing scene. It uses special film to print images onto garments. DTF easily prints on cotton, polyester, synthetic, or silk without any issues.

The key reason why DTF is becoming popular is because of the freedom it gives you to choose almost any surface for printing and has a softer, smoother finish compared to conventional screen printing. It’s also quicker and more cost effective to set up, which will get your merch done and ready for your store in no time!

Screen Printing

Screen printing is the classic way to print t-shirts. It's a high budget process, but it produces high-quality results. Each color requires a separate screen, which can make it more time-consuming and costly for multi-color designs.

Although, it is highly durable and resistant to fading, cracking, and peeling. Screen printing can also be a relatively low-cost printing technique, particularly when producing large quantities of prints.

Which is Better?

The answer depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you're looking for a high-quality, detailed print with a limited color palette, DTF printing might be the way to go. However, if you're ordering a large quantity of shirts with complex designs, screen printing may be more cost-effective

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide which printing method best fits your style and budget.
